Name: Lindissë (mothername, chosen name), Falmariel (fathername), Linda/Lindy Wogner (current passport)
Canon: Tolkien's Middle-earth Compendium - Silmarillion.
Pull-point: Modern day, August 2015.
Power Opt-in post link: Here! Telepathy, animal communication, irl history knowledge.
Content Opt-out post link: N/A
Age: Looks "ageless", which probably means vaguely twenties. Actually old as dirt, let's say 20.000+? She was born sometime between Fingolfin and Maglor's birth.
Gender/Sex: Female
Appearance: She's about 6' tall, has long, dark hair and dark eyes. She has taken to modern human clothing and acquired round ears along the way to make things easier on her - but she still glows in the dark, and those who can sense souls will easily realize that hers is too large to be human. Visual reference.
History: Falmariel was born as one of the first children after her people, the Falmari, had arrived in Aman after a long time out in the sea. Thus her father named her "daughter of the Falmari" which also means "daughter of the waves". Her mother, later, gave her the name Lindissë, because from her earliest childhood on she loved to sing and would turn all that happened into song.
She grew up, tried to study about every instrument that there was in Valinor and but eventually settled with the flute. She met a nice young man, they got married, and since he was from a different city named Tirion, they alternated between the cities and started talking about children...
And then things went downhill. You see, Lindissë's father-in-law had issues, and those led to him being sent into exile for a couple of years. Without a thought, her husband followed, while Lindissë moved into their seaside home in Alqualondë, figuring that boys just need some time in their mancave every once in a while. Well, shit happened and ended with said father-in-law launching an attack on Alqualondë. A lot of people were killed. Among the Lindissë. Her murderer was her husband, who had followed along with his dad and was in a bit of a murderous frenzy.
Oops. Well. She spent some time in the realm of the dead, and eventually was released. She rebuild the seaside home, though much smaller and with a different design. She took up all kinds of different instruments, ignoring the flute. She made friends, took trips, lived a happy life... But eventually forgave and started to really miss her husband, and when all other Elves had returned and the sixth age rolled around, she started to work on a new project: Go east and find him. It took time and much convincing and finding support, but finally, she was granted passage to go and return, and bring her husband with her, should she find him and he still be in a state to come.
She arrived in Ireland at the end of the first century BC. To earn a living, she always picked professions that let her travel so she could continue searching for Maglor and also leave places soon so nobody would catch onto her not ageing. Her identities fluctuated between male (standing at 6' people bought the male identity despite the slender Elven body) and female. By upbringing, she knew a thing or two about seafaring, she of course had her musician's skillset, and over time she added medical skills and trading skills to it, and 95% of the time her professions lay in those areas (most other times, she was a merchant/guard/soldier because of the mobility). In modern day, changing identity got harder, as did being a travelling professional, so she's been looking around for alternatives and tried to relocate behind the cameras in hopes of that leaving less traces while still allowing for mobility.
Personality:
Lindissë usually doesn't let an obstacle stop her, but she won't overcome it - she'll find a way around it. The only time when she will directly confront the obstacle itself is when there's really no other way, and then she'll do so with a dogged determination that can only end either in the end of the obstacle or her own end. It can also mean that, if there is truly nothing that she can do, she simply explodes with temper, but that happens rarely these days because she's worked hard on her temper and learned to redirect it into more productive lines. She still sometimes fails, and sometimes explosions are a necessary step for her to find a reasonable solution after (see below).
While she has a distinct identity, both individually and as a Falmarin woman, she is quick to adapt parts of the culture that she lives in and blend in, both because she dislikes standing out and because there are always things about other cultures that she likes to try out and that are genuinely interesting to her. It's also tied into the whole thing of her rather giving in and finding a different way than fighting for it as long as there is a different way or it is really important to her to keep the thing as she is.
That doesn't mean that she is shy - she simply has very clear priorities regarding what she can change and what not, and is always willing to change and adapt what isn't that core that she won't change. Sadly, her adaptability only kicks in after she has spoken her mind (when her husband decided to go into exile with his father, she screamed at him first and then after having calmed down told him that well, she'd just go and stay with her parents until he would be done with this) - she is honest to a fault and doesn't typically bottle things up or let's them sit and fester. If something weighs on her heart, she will attempt to immediately follow up with it, in word or deed, be it praise or complaint or anything else. This can at times mean a physical attack on someone when she can't redirect frustration in time.
She can change her mind - come to hate someone that she loved, come to respect something that she despised, and so on. But especially with people, she will likely return to the first feeling that she had about them in the long run.
As a last thing - one of the reason why she can work around things is that she doesn't view things as units. Someone can be an okay father, a splendid father-in-law, a terrible politician and an idiot, and she will see all of this as it is, judge them as separate units and then treat the person according to the role that they currently occupy. This can obviously look rather inconsequential on the outside, because she might defend someone in one conversation and bash then in the next.
Abilities:
General Elven skills
- Openness of mind (can "talk" to flora and fauna and even some inanimate things)
- Sanwe-layta (telepathy)
- ambidextrous
- superior hearing and eyesight
- doesn't need sleep (Elves are kinda dolphins there)
- wisdom (whatever that means, thanks Professor)
- hard to kill, doesn't age/die of age
Specific Elven skills
- healing (she has to fight and kill every once in a while, so her healing skills are okay but not good)
- songs of power
Other skills
- plays a good deal of the instruments ever conceived on Earth, though with varying skill/interest
- she has a really nice singing voice and is a talented composer
- Falmarin, Noldorin, a good number of tongues of our world starting with 1st century BC Gaelic and spanning two millennia and all continents, though the older ones she's obviously super rusty on and may down to being able to say "Thanks". Her most recently acquired/updated languages are German and Malay.
- riding (mediocre)
- hunting/trapping (mediocre)
- Botanic knowledge both from a medical and a "what can I eat/how will it have to be prepared to be eaten" perspective. *Not* biology.
- using various blades, projectile weapons and firearms - she's not an expert, but she can defend herself and pass as a reasonably capable merchant if needed
- broad medical knowledge spanning different cultures and times
- can swim
- skilled photographer
- general adulting skillset from 1 BC to 2015.
- seafaring skills - she would in theory be able to sail and navigate a boat as long as it isn't out on the high seas.
- fishing.
- things that she can't do (or rather, that she can only do in as far as they are part of a general adulting skillset or relate to photography): Any kind of visual arts, manual skills and crafts, chemistry, physics, maths, engineering, speeches/rhetoric, leadership, farming, mining, forging, linguistics, architecture, archaeology, IT, lots more... Notably she has none of the typical Noldorin skills.
Inventory:
- Hiking boots, the kind of quick-drying synthetic clothes that you'd put on for hiking, a hat, a very warm jacket.
- A backpack in/on which are located: Some food, a mug/pot thing, a stativ, a set of photo equipment, a change of undies, a small back with sanitary items, a synthetic towel, water purifying tablets, a small bag with travel medicine, a super light and tiny sleeping bag.
- A set of approximate pictures of Maglor with his ears concealed by hair, wearing a variety of things, with a variety of hairstyles, scars and other altering things on his body. The schooled eye will sense the photoshop in this one.
- A satellite enabled smartphone with gps etc.
- A notebook and a few pens.
- A wallet containing: A German passport issued to Linda Wogner, currently living in Bombay; some dollars and rupees (some Nepalese, some Indian); a driver's license also issued to Linda Wogner; credit cards and some other necessary cards of modern day life.
Anything else:
- She is from a world where all Elves come to the Halls after they die, no matter what happened to them in life, and those that decide to stay in M-e don't necessarily turn into evil spirits. If by your interpretation of the various versions of canon there is no canonical way for this to be true, you may regard her world as AU.
- While she has forgiven her husband and wants to be around him again, and generally has no issues with the part of the family that stayed in Valinor or didn't participate in the attack on Alqualondë, her feelings are a heavily mixed bag when it comes to those that did participate and Fëanor's sons in particular (Maglor aside, whom she obviously had and has special feelings towards) her feelings stay negative towards. She might not usually stay mad at someone, but that does have limits. If you are interested in playing with any of this or further discussing a specific person's situation, please contact me!
